COVID-19 Update from our CEO
Dear Members, supporters and friends of The Oxygen Works,
I hope that this message finds you and your loved ones safe and well during these unprecedented times.
We are sure that many of you, like ourselves, are still coming to terms with the devastating impact of Coronavirus on our country, our NHS, our businesses and our daily lives.
Following the difficult decision to close the centre on Tuesday 17th March we have been looking at ways in which we can sustain the finances of the charity to ensure that we are able to continue to provide therapies and support to our members across the Scottish Highlands after Coronavirus. One of the ways we can do this is to engage in the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS).
To qualify for this financial support, all of our services are temporarily suspended and the centre will remain closed until such times as the Government guidance allows us to open once again. Part of the CJRS means that we have had to furlough most of our team, which means they are unable to undertake any work for the organisation. As the senior management team, Beth and myself cannot be furloughed and we will be busy looking at ways to support the business; seeking funding, updating online media, answering correspondence and ensuring the staff are supported. Beth will be taking a lead on this while I make a temporary return to pharmacy part-time to support the NHS.
As I am sure you can imagine, the impact of Coronavirus will see our resources and limited reserves stretched beyond anything we have experienced before. With no income for therapies, no means of holding our fund raising events, including our Pro-Am Golf Day and 20:20 for O2 cycle event; the cancellation of events we were to directly benefit from including the Highland Cross and Great Wilderness Challenge much of the projected income we had for 2020 has been wiped out. Nevertheless, I have been overwhelmed by the many members who have been in touch and have pledged to continue to pay their monthly Direct Debits; those who have asked about making donations and purchased gift vouchers through our ‘Pay It Forward’ campaign. There are many ways you can get involved and provide essential funding support; you could set up a monthly Direct Debit donation, you could donate via our Facebook or Just Giving pages; every single penny really can make a difference to an organisation of our size and never have we needed more support from our friends and supporters than we do now. If you would like to get involved, please get in touch with Beth and myself by emailing email@example.com and we can let you know the various ways you can help.
Together we will ensure that The Oxygen Works continues to breathe life and provide support to people living across the Scottish Highlands.
Please stay safe, stay positive and follow the Government guidelines.
Thinking of you all.
